Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide steel having in particular pitting resistance improved of the pitting resistance and mechanical properties possessed by SUS630, by having a relatively large amount of N contained in martensite-containing steel and having Mo and N compositely contained in the steel.
CONSTITUTION: The martensite-containing stainless steel comprising 0.01W0.06% C, 1.00% or less Si, 1.00% or less Mn, 3.00W6.00% Ni, 14.00W18.00% Cr, 0.20W 1.50% Mo, 0.02W0.15% N and the remainder of Fe and inevitable impurities, and meeting the conditions of formulae I and II where Ms is the formation temperature °C of martensite. When the content of Mo is less than its lower limit, the wear resistance of the steel is deteriorated, and when the content of it exceeds its upper limit, the strngth of alloy is lowered and the alloy becomes costly. N improves the strength and it along with Mo contributes to the improvement of the pitting resistance of the alloy, but when the content of N is less than its lower limit, these properties are deteriorated and when the content of it exceeds its upper limit, the strength is lowered. The larger the value of right-hand member of formula II, the greater will be the pitting resistance potential in about 3.5% salt aqueous solution.
