Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a nylon foam having uniform fine cellular structure, by a method wherein nylon and a chemical blowing agent are melt-kneaded together, the mixture is cooled and solidified to obtain master pellets which are then blended with nylon for a base polymer, and the mixture is subjected to melt-expansion molding.
CONSTITUTION: Nylon such as nylon 6 or nylon 12 and 5W200wt% chemical blowing agent [having a decomposition temp. higher than the melting point of nylon (e.g. azodicarbonamide or dinitrosopentamethylene tetramine)] are melt-kneaded together at a temp. lower than the decomposition temp. of the chemical blowing agent. The mixture is solidified by cooling to produce master pellets. The resulting master pellets are blended with nylon for a base polymer in such an amount as to give the content of the chemical blowing agent in an amount of 0.05W10% based on the total amount of nylon. The mixture is subjected to melt-expansion molding by means of a molding method such as an extrusion molding or an injection molding to obtain the desired foamed nylon molded article.
