Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a melt flux providing with an excellent welding by preparing an alloy of prescribed bulk density containing SiO2, MnO, CaO, Al2O3, CaF2 and MgO in a specific ratio.
CONSTITUTION: This flux essentially consists of 21W30% SiO2, 5W15% MnO, 5W 15% CaO, 21W30% Al2O3, and 20W30% CaF2, where SiO2+Al2O3+CaF2=68W 83% and MgO<2%. Further, its bulk density is over 1.4g/cm3. Consequently, slag breaks away excellently , no pock mark appears and an excellent bead profile can be obtained. To adjust the toughness, flowability and fusion point, one or more of TiO2, BaO and ZrO2, and K2O, Na2O and LiO2 can be added by ≤ about 10% in total if reguired.
