Abstract

PURPOSE: To selectively hydrogenate the carbon to carbon double bonds of titled polymer by use of a small amount of a catalyst, by employing, as the catalyst, a cataltst prepared by allowing a porous powder-form or granular carrier to simultaneously support Pd and at least one sepcified metal or nonmetal.
CONSTITUTION: A conjugated diene type polymer is dissolved in a solvent, and hydrogenated in an autoclave by use of catalyst prepared by allowing a porous powder-form or granular carrier to simultaneously support Pd and at least one member selected from the group consisting of Au, B, Al, Ga, Ce, Sm, Si, Ge, Sb, Mo, Te, W and Re. This catalyst has high activity and high selectivity, and therefore, a small amount of this catalyst performs the selective hydrogenation of carbon to carbon double bonds of a polymer. The hydrogeneated polymer has excellent weater resistance, ozone resistance, heat resistance and cold resistance, and has wide applications.
