Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an optical glass having high refractive index and low dispersion, producible stably, and free from ThO2, CdO, etc. which are hazardous to human health, by adding Gd2O3, Y2O3, etc. at specific weight ratios to main components consisting of SiO2, B2O3, La2O3, and Yb2O3.
CONSTITUTION: The titled optical glass is composed of the following constituents: (A) 10W25wt% of SiO2, (B) 3W20% of B2O3, (C) 5W60% of La2O3, (D) 5W65% of Yb2O3, (E) 0W15% of Gd2O3 and 0W15% of Y2O3 provided that La2O3+ Yb2O3+Gd2O3+Y2O3=30W78%, and (F) 0W12wt% of ZrO2, 0W15% of HfO2, 0W15% of Sc2O3, 0W10% of In2O3, 0W3% of SnO2, 0W10% of WO3, 0W10% of TiO2, 0W25% of Ta2O5, 0W20% of Nb2O5, 0W20% of PbO, 0W15% of Al2O3, 0W 10% of GeO2, 0W20% of Ga2O3, 0W25% of RO (MgO, CaO, BaO, SrO, or ZnO), 0W0.5% of R2O (Li2O, K2O, or Na2O) and 0W0.3% of As2O3.
