Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease dimensions axially of a device and perform its miniaturization, by such constitution that a friction member coupled to a sun gear of the speed change device for an automobile or the like is engage-disengaged to a ring gear of planetary gears by the action of oil pressure and belleville spring to perform the operation of engage-disengagement of the sun gear to the ring gear.
CONSTITUTION: When pressure oil is not fed into a cylinder chamber 41, a piston member 34 is urged rightward by a belleville spring 46, and a friction member 21 is friction coupled to a clutch facing part 20 of a ring gear 17 by a clutch pad 25. Accordingly a sun gear 10 and the ring gear 17 are linked to lock a planetary gear mechanism, and the rotary motion of an input power shaft 6 is not speed changed. When the pressure oil is fed into the cylinder chamber 41, the friction memeber 21 is moved leftward according to the leftward motion of the piston member 34 and coupled to a brake member 27 then fixed to the sun gear 10. Accordingly the input rotary motion is speed changed by the planetary gears. In this way, as the member corresponding to a conventional sliding member performs the action of a piston, dimensions in a direction of the axial line can be decreased.
