Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R1 is 1W4C alkyl; R2 is H, 1W6C alkyl, methoxymethyl, 1-ethoxycarbonylethyl, chlorobenzyl, acetyl or lower alkenyl; X is H, Cl, OH, 1W4C alkyl, 1W6C alkyloxy, methoxymethoxy, etc.).
EXAMPLE: 1-( 2,4-Dichloro-5-isopropoxyphenyl )-3-methyl-4-allyl-Δ2-1,2,4-triazolin- 5-one.
USE: A herbicide for controlling annual and perennial weeds in a paddy field, a plowed field, a tree garden and damp ground.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reacted with a compound of formula III (Y is O or S) in an inert solvent under heating to give a compound of formula IV, which is then subjected to ring closure in the presence of a base to form a compound of formula V. The compound of formula V is then reacted with a compound of formula VI (Z is halogen) in the presence of a base to afford the compound of formula I.
