Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a resin composition which forms a transparent coating having excellent wear resistance, by decomposing a mixture of a specific silane coupling agent and a tetra-alkyloxy compound of metals of Groups IV and III.

CONSTITUTION: To a silane coupling agent of formula Si(OR₁)₃R₂, where R₁ is a linear or branched 1W18C alkyl; R₂ is an alkylene containing epoxy, amino, alkyl, phenyl, cyclohexyl, etc., 0.01W50wt% tetra-alkyloxy compound of metals of formula Me(OR₁)₄, where M is a group IV metal such as Ti, Si, Zr, Sn, Ge, etc. or a group III metal such as Al, In, La, etc. in added, and the mixture is diluted with a solvent such as alcohol, ketone, etc. to obtain a coating solution. Subsequently, said coating solution is coated on the surface of a molded item comprising a polycarbonate resin, acrylic resin, etc. and dried at 50W60°C of 1W3hr, and thereafter pyrolyzed or hydrolyzed by heating at a high temperature of 120°C or lower or at 40W90°C in an atmosphere of a relative humidity of 40% or lower.
