Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture high quality glass by using a continuously glass melting furnace of direct power supply system as a main feed furnace and a continuously glass melting furnace of fuel combustion system as an auxiliary feed furnace to facilitate the operational control of the furnaces when glass is continuously melted. CONSTITUTION:When glass is continuously melted, continuously glass melting furnace 1 of direct power supply system and continuously glass melting furnace 6 of fuel combustion system are installed in connection with forehearth 5. The melting capacity of furnace 1 is set to a capacity slightly below the molten glass pulling capacity of forehearth 5, and the melting capacity of furnace 6 almost corresponds to the difference between the pulling capacity of forehearth 5 and the melting capacity of furnace 1. Glass melted in furnace 1 and glass melted in furnace 6 are mixed and homogenized by stirring with stirrer 10, and the homogeneous glass is fed to molding machine 12. Thus, stable operation can be carried out while making use of the characteristics of both furnaces 1, 6.
