Abstract

PURPOSE: To make invariably-accurate decisions of black and white parts of a picture by varying a comparison reference voltage according to variation in the scanning speed of an original reader.
CONSTITUTION: A timing mask signal outputted by a photo detecting diode is amplified by amplifier 11 and then inputted to differentiating circuit 12. Circuit 12 varies a voltage level in accordance with the gradient of the timing mask signal. The peak value of this differential signal is obtained by peak holding circuit 13, sampled and held by sample holding circut 14, and subtracted from a set reference value by subtracter circuit 15 to shift a comparison reference value in level. On the other hand, the timing mask signal is inputted to pulse generating circuit 16 to let a comparator, one-short FF, FF, etc., generate a reset pulse to circuit 13, a sampling pulse to circuit 14, and a transfer pulse to CCD image sensor 17. Further, continuous clock pulses from clock generator 18 are gated to generate a string of transfer pulses. In this way, the set comparison reference signal is compared with the picture signal of the CCD sensor by comparator 19 and converted into binry codes.
