Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a new polyoxyalkylene polyether having therminal silanol groups and useful for production of sealing materials, electrical insulating materials, etc. when used together with a crosslinking agent, e.g. hydrolyzable organosilicon compounds, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A polyoxyalkylene polyether I (R1 is 1W8C univalent hydrocarbon group; R2 and R3 are 1W4C bivalent hydrocarbon group; a is 0, 1 or 2; b is integer of 10W300; c is integer of 1W5) having a molecular weight of 500W30,000, e.g. II, etc. For example, a polyether III having unsaturated groups at the both chain ends is reacted with an Si-H bond-containing chlorosilane IV in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. chloroplatinic acid, etc., to give a polyether V. A polyoxyalkylene polyether I is obtained by hydrolyzing the polyether V at -10W130°C.
