Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the polarizing plate of superior moisture resistance and heat resistance by embedding the polarizing film made basically of polyvinyl alcohol in transparent synthetic resin.
CONSTITUTION: A polarizing film of polyvinyl alcohol base is cut to a desired size (the shape and size necessary in use) and this is embedded by using the synthetic resin material which does not require severe treating conditions in the process of embedding treatment. Namely, the polarizing film is embedded by using the solution of, e.g, a thermoplastic high polymer, as the abovementioned synthetic resin, after which the solvent is evaporated away, whereby the embedding layer is formed. Ordinary, a polarizing plate is formed by providing protecting layers on both surfaces of a polarizing film and it is used by being cut to a desired size in using the same, but with this method the exposed surfaces of polyvinyl alcohol exist in the cut faces and therefore such a plate is poor in moisture resistance and heat resistance but by embedding the polarizing film of a desired size in the synthetic resin as mentioned above, the defects occuring in the cut faces may be eliminated.
