Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide high refractive index glass beads contg. Tio2, BaO, CaO, Na2O, K2O, ZnO, PbO, SiO2 and ZrO2 which beads cause little milk white or gray devitrification, slightly undergo reduction, and do not turn yellowish brown.
CONSTITUTION: The glass beads contain, by wt., TiO2 53.5W55.0%, BaO 27.0W 32.0%, CaO 0.5W2.0%, ZnO 1.0W3.0%, PbO 5.0W6.5%, SiO2 0.3W2.0%, ZrO2 3.0W7.0% and P2O5 0W1.0% and have a Na2O to K2O molar ratio of 1.0.
EFFECT: The beads are transparent or colorless under the condition of refraction or reflection, and they assume a white color as a whole at a light scattering state, e.g. under the sunlight or headlight rays of light at night. Accordingly they are suitable for use as glass beads for recurrent reflection.
