Abstract
PURPOSE: To assimilate starch and proteins in eutrophic waste water, even under the worst conditions, by the use of specific microbial strain.
CONSTITUTION: An eutrophic waste water-treating variant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. elliposideus, e.g. Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. ellipsiideus YS-1 (FERM-P No.4498), is added to eutrophic waste water to decompose the eutrophic components such as starch, proteins, etc. The COD of the waste water can be decreased to 5W30 ppm by treating the above treated waste water with activated sludge. The above variant of Saccharomyces is resistant to sulfurous acid at pH ≤5.0, decomposes acids, and assimilates the nutrious components.
