Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a honeycomb activated carbon molding having high formability and high water impregnation resistance by kneading a water soluble org. binder such as starch glue or methyl cellulose, a powdered thermosetting rasin and activated carbon powder with water after which the kneaded material is molded and set by heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: A water soluble org. binder such as starch glue or methyl cellulose, powder of a thermosetting resin such as epoxy resin or phenol resin, and activated carbon powder are kneaded with water. The amount of the resin used is 20W250, preferably 80W250 parts to the amount of the activated carbon powder. The kneaded material is then molded into the desired form, dried, and set by heat treatment to obtain honeycomb activated carbon 1 having many passes 1a. This carbon is used to clean the internal polluted air of a car, etc. as well as adsorb fuel vapor exhausted from the car. In addition, it is placed in a deodorizing apparatus.
