Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a cell of a high energy density by using an organic compound, e.g., pyrene-quinone, perillene-diquinone, etc., as the positive electrode active material of a cell using an alkali or alkaline earth metal as a negative electrode active material. CONSTITUTION:The stainless steel bottom plate 3 serving as a negative electrode is welded to the bottom of the ceramic ring 1 through the Kovar ring 2. The container is filled with the negative electrode active material of an alkali or alkaline earth metal, e.g., lithium, and then on the active material 4, the positive electrode active material is provided through the separator or solid electrolyte layer 5 impregnated with an electrolyte solution. Then, the container is covered with the stainless steel cover 7 and then air-tightly sealed up through the Kovar ring 2' to form a cell. The positive electrode active material 6 used in such a cell includes pyrene-1,6- quinone, pyrene-1,8-quinone, pyrene-1,10-quinone, perillene-1,6,7,12-diquinone, or the derivatives of these.
