Abstract

PURPOSE:To virtually eliminate the reflection at the incident end face of an optical fiber by disposing a transparent glass plate by means of a transparent adhesive agent to the incident end face of the optical fiber in coupling of a semiconductor laser and optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A plane glass 3 is placed in front of the incident end face 2 of an optical fiber 1 and between these is bonded by means of epoxy 4. The refractive index of glass or guartz is 1.4 to 1.5 and that of epoxy about 1.5. Hence, if the incident end face 2 of the optical fiber made of glass or guartz and glass or guartz plate 3 are bonded by the epoxy 4, the spacing between both is not air layer but epoxy and therefore the reflectance of light at the incident end face 2 of the optical fiber becomes 0 to 0.12%. Further, if necessary, non-reflection coating 7' is applied to the incident end face 7 of the glass plate 3.
