Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance, plastic deformation resistance, and ductility of a super hard alloy tool, by forming on the surface of the super hard alloy contg. principally WC etc. a ductile surface layer comprising iron family metal, and an intermediate hardened layer comprising carbides, nitrides, and oxides of Al, Si, B etc. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate hardened layer 1-30mum in thickness, and a surface layer 0.1-30mum in thickness on the intermediate layer are formed so as to cover the surface of a super hard alloy base material comprising 40-95% WC, 2-30% a compound of NaCl type crystal structure which comprises one or more members selected from the group consisting of carbides, nitrides, and oxides of 4a, 5a, 6a group metals of the periodic table, 3-30% one or more members selected from the group consisting of iron group metals as a bonding material. The intermediate layer comprises 70-98% a compound of NaCl type crystal structure comprising one or more members selected from the group consisting of carbides, nitrides, and oxides of 4a, 5a, 6a group metals of the periodic table, 2-30% one or more members selected from the iron group metals. The ductile surface layer comprises one or more members of iron group metals.
