Abstract
PURPOSE: To simply diagnose whether a crank angle sensor is normal or not, by judging whether the frequency ratio of reference pulses to angle pulses for the rotation of a crankshaft is of prescribed value or not.
CONSTITUTION: When a crankshaft starts rotating, angle pulses S2 are entered and a reset circuit 13 stops resetting. After that, an FF 7 is set by a reference pulse S1 and a sixty frequency divider 8 is enabled to perform counting by the output signal S4 of the FF 7. The frequency divider 8 is made of a counter. Whenever sixty pulses S2 are applied to the frequency divider, it produces a carry signal S6 which is applied as an input CLK to a counter 10. As for a crank angle sensor which produces a pulse S1 in every crank agnle of 120° and a pulse S2 in every crank angle of 2°, the signal S7 of the counter 10 having counted the pulses S1 and the signal S8 of the counter 10 having counted the signals S6 are always coincident with each other if the sensor is normal. At that time, the signal S9 of a digital comparator 11 for comparing the signals S7, S8 with each other has a high level. The AND of the signals S9, S4 is taken by an AND circuit 14 to generate a judgement signal S10 whose level is high when the sensor is normal.
