Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a solidified body of waste such as sludge free of harmful matter easily at a low cost through fusing thereof by heat with simultaneous addition of three substances -- boron, silicon and alkali metal or alkaline earth metal respectively in the form of compound.
CONSTITUTION: The three substance -- the one mainly composed of boric acid or a salt thereof (for instance, borax, line borate, and colemanite ore etc.), the one mainly composed of silicic acid or copper cilicate (for instance, silica sand, glass dust) and the one mainly composed of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal (for instance, sodium lime, sodium chloride, and lime) are added to a waste such as sludge respectively at a rate of 0.5 to 50 part by weight in terms of boric acid, 2 to 100 part in terms of silicic acid, and 2 to 100 part of alkaline metal compounds with respect to 100 part by weight of ash content in the waste and then, fused by heat (for example, up to 700 to 1,500°C).
