Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and recover p-xylene, by adsorbing p-xylene from a raw material feedstock containing a mixture 8C aromatic hydrocarbons on a specific zeolite adsorbent to adsorb it selectively, followed by desorbing the p-xylene with an eluent containing p-cymene.
CONSTITUTION: p-xylene is selectively adsorbed from an 8C hydrocarbon mixture comprising p-xylene and at least one type of m- or O-xylene and ethylbenzene on a zeolite adsorbent of the faujasite type containing K as a cationic component and at least one component selected from Ca, Mg, Y, Zr, Nd, and proton in the liquid phase at 0W350°C under a pressure ranging from atmospheric one to 40kg/cm2, then desorbed by an eluent containing p-cymene, separated, and recovered.
EFFECT: Improved properties of the eluent containing p-cymene can be more effectively exhibited by the specific adsorbent.
