Abstract
PURPOSE:To make small the stress due to cooling, and to prevent the generation of transverse crack in the cast billet, by hot rolling the billet of ferrite stainless steel of a special kind, without cooling the billet surface to under 150 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:In case of hot rolling of the continuously cast billet of a ferrite stainless steel containing one kind or more than two of Mo, Zr and Nb, the hot billet, being cooled so as not to make under 150 deg.C the surface temperature of the billet, is charged into the heating furnace, and is hot rolled by the conventional method; hereby, the stress generated in the billet while cooling period becomes smaller than the tensile strength of this material, so that the generation of transverse crack, usual in the conventional method, is prevented.
