Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently manufacture granular slag with properties comparable to those of natural sand by placing a separation weir at the tip of a channel to divide a flowing-down stream of molten slag and scattering the divided streams with a gas sprayed from a nozzle to enhance the slag granulation efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: Separation weir 5 is placed at the tip of channel 3', and a stream of molten slag 1 flowing down through channel 3' is divided with weir 5 to allow the slag to flow down as divided streams. Thus, the divided flowing-down streams of slag 1 can be granulation dispersed efficiently even with a gas of low velocity sprayed from outlet 4a of spray nozzle 4, and the flying distnce is extended to enhance the slag granulation efficiency. In this process the vol. of the gas sprayed is 20W50 m3/sec to 1 t/hr of flowing molten slag 1, and about 500 mmHg is enough for the gas press. Accordingly, granular slag 1a can be manufactured efficiently in such a simple apparatus at a low cost with little noise.
