Conventionally, various copying machines capable of double-sided copying have been proposed, but when double-sided copying is performed from a single-sided original, especially an odd number of single-sided originals, the last page of the sheets stacked on the output tray after copying is Operational errors such as paper being turned upside down were likely to occur.

This invention was made to solve these problems, and allows the user to eject a portion of the paper, etc., by hand during operation of the copying machine, without having to perform operations such as reversing a portion of the paper. It is an object of the present invention to provide an electronic copying machine in which copied sheets are always stacked in a tray in the correct order and with a constant front-back relationship.

When the number of originals is an even number, 1/2 of the number of originals
The paper is conveyed from the paper tray to the duplex copying tray without copying, and the entire original is conveyed and passed over the platen in sequence, and the even-numbered pages of the original are sequentially placed on the bottom of the paper stacked on the duplex copying tray. After making copies and storing them in the double-sided copying tray, all the originals are conveyed and passed over the platen one after another, and the odd-numbered pages of the original are sequentially copied on the other side of the paper and ejected to the output tray. In this case, after copying the last page of the original and ejecting that paper to the output tray, the remaining originals will be processed in the same way as when the number of originals is an even number for (number of originals - 1) x 1/2 paper. By providing an electronic copying machine with a control means that allows paper feeding and double-sided copying to be performed in a sequential manner, even when an odd number of single-sided originals are being processed, the user does not have to turn over the paper, etc. To discharge sheets with double-sided copies sequentially and in correct front-back relationship to a discharge tray.

Hereinafter, one embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. In the drawing, reference numeral 1 denotes a main body of a copying machine, which has a platen 3 on top of which a document 2 to be copied is placed. An automatic document feeder 4 is installed. The automatic document feeder 4 adopts the Ntol method in which the document 2 stored in the document storage section 5 with the last page facing down is sequentially conveyed onto the platen 3, and the document 2 that has been copied is stacked on the top document 2. However, the automatic document feeder 4 may not be used, and the document 2 may be manually set 3 pages above the last page for copying. An optical system 6 is provided below the platen 3 to expose and scan the original 2 on the platen 3 while moving along the platen 3. This optical system 6 directs light reflected from the original 2 onto a photoreceptor 7. An electrostatic latent image is formed on the photoreceptor 7, and this electrostatic latent image is developed into a toner image by the developing device 8.
The image is transferred onto paper 10 fed from paper tray 9. The paper tray 9 has a plurality of stages, for example, two stages, and sheets 10 of different sizes are carried out one by one from the top by a paper feed roll 11 provided above the paper tray 9.

In the copying machine as described above, a configuration for performing double-sided copying from a single-sided original will be described. To simplify the explanation, we will explain the case where one set of double-sided copies is made from a single-sided original, but if there are two or more sets of double-sided copies, for example K sets, simply process K times the number of sheets. This is done in the same way as in a normal copying machine.

First, the case where there is an even number of single-sided originals will be explained. For example, if you set the paper 10 in the paper tray 9 and instruct double-sided copying and the number of original sheets from the operation panel (not shown), the number of original sheets specified before starting copying, that is, the number of original sheets x 1/2, will be printed. 10 is empty-fed by a paper feed roll 11 via a conveyance path 12 to a double-sided copying tray 13. The double-sided copy tray 13 is located behind the fixing device 14, and when the fixing device 14 switches the conveyance path switching guide 15 provided on the rear conveyance path 12 to the double-sided copy tray 13, the paper 10 Then, the final page of the original 2 is copied onto one side of the first paper 10, and the copied paper 10 is stacked on top of the paper 10 on the duplex copying tray 13. be done. Thereafter, the above operation was repeated to copy the even numbered pages of the original 2 onto one side of all sheets 10, and when the even numbered pages had been copied, the above operation was repeated again to copy the odd numbered pages onto the sheet 10 on which the even numbered pages had been copied. Thereafter, the sheets are sequentially discharged onto a discharge tray 21 by a discharge roll 20.

Next, if the number of original sheets is odd, it is necessary to leave one side of the final page of paper 10 blank, so instead of feeding the final page of paper 10 in a blank manner, copy the last page of original 2 on one side and place it in the output tray. Discharge to 21. After that, the required number of copies, as in the case of copying the even number of copies above, i.e.
(Number of original sheets - 1) x 1/2 is fed to the double-sided copying tray 13 to perform double-sided copying.

The above is a case of double-sided copying, but in the case of single-sided copying, copying can be performed in the normal copying mode without changing the setting position of the specific paper 10.

As detailed above, according to the present invention, even in the case of double-sided copying, there is no need to manually flip the original or paper, so operability is improved, and paper is not wasted due to operational errors. Problems such as fatigue and decreased work efficiency can also be eliminated.
