ナトリウム水ガラス溶液(濃度27%、1.7kgのSiO2)を、NaOH溶液(濃度25%、1.0kgのNa2O)、及び5kgの純水(溶液1)と混合した。容器において7kgの純水を45℃まで加熱した。この容器に、溶液1及びMg硝酸塩溶液(濃度8%、0.8kgのMgO)を同時に添加した。この添加が終了した後に、混合物をさらに55℃で30分間撹拌した。この沈殿溶液に、55℃で数時間に亘り、Cu硝酸塩溶液(濃度20%、2.4kgのCuO)と炭酸溶液(濃度20%、5kgのNa2CO3)の2種の溶液を添加した。

CuO/ZnO/Al2O3調合物をベースとする市販の吸着材、すなわち、従来の天然ガス用の脱硫溶液として使用されている吸着材を使用した。ここで、金属酸化物の総量は、吸着材の全質量に対して75質量%を超えていた。
ジメチルスルフィド:
テストガスシリンダーを用いて、ジメチルスルフィド(天然ガス中のDMS)を、体積測定対象の天然ガス流に計量投入した。これを、1時間あたり170リットル(S.T.P.)のトータル体積に対し平均濃度の20ppmで触媒(2500h-1のGHSVに対応して68ml)を通過させた。
一般的に環状の硫黄化合物はスルホン基終端の化合物と比較して、吸着による除去が困難であることが知られているので、テトラヒドロチオフェン(THT)を「有機」硫黄化合物に対するモデル物質として選択した。なお、THTはドイツにおいて最も普及している着臭剤である。
他の着臭剤は、天然ガス、特にLPG中における着臭剤として使用されるエチルメルカプタン(EtSH)であった。一般的に、銅を含む触媒が使用される場合、ジスルフィド(ここでは、ジエチル、ジスルフィド、DEDS)を形成するメルカプタンの酸化的二量化が生じ得る。従って、吸着材の全吸着能力を、第1番目(ここでは、EtSh又はDEDS)を通過する硫黄成分から測定した。

Claims (17)
- 炭化水素ガス混合物から硫黄化合物を除去する方法であって、
炭化水素ガス混合物を、酸化銅を担体材料としてのケイ酸マグネシウム上に有する吸着材料に接触させる工程を含み、
前記硫黄化合物が、メルカプタン、有機硫化物、二硫化物、及び環状硫黄化合物からなる群から選択されることを特徴とする方法。 - 吸着材料が、含有の検出限界である0.04ppm未満の硫黄化合物を除去する請求項1に記載の方法。
- 吸着材料が、30〜70質量%のCuOを含む請求項1又は2に記載の方法。
- 吸着材料が、周期表の2族、及び4〜12族の金属の1種以上の他の金属酸化物を2質量%以下含む請求項1〜3の何れか1項に記載の方法。
- 炭化水素ガス混合物が、1〜500ppmの硫黄化合物を含む請求項1〜4の何れか1項に記載の方法。
- 炭化水素ガス混合物が、0.5〜50ppmのH2Sを含む請求項1〜5の何れか1項に記載の方法。
- 炭化水素ガス混合物が、1〜100ppmのCOSを含む請求項1〜6の何れか1項に記載の方法。
- 炭化水素ガス混合物が、0.5〜20ppmのテトラヒドロチオフェンを含む請求項1〜7の何れか1項に記載の方法。
- 炭化水素ガス混合物が、1〜100ppmのジメチルスルフィドを含む請求項1〜8の何れか1項に記載の方法。
- 炭化水素ガス混合物が、1〜100ppmのエチルメルカプタンを含む請求項1〜9の何れか1項に記載の方法。
- 炭化水素ガス混合物が、天然ガスである請求項1〜10の何れか1項に記載の方法。
- 硫黄化合物を化学的吸着により一部分拘束し且つ物理的吸着により一部分拘束する吸着材料に炭化水素ガスを接触させる工程を含み、
前記吸着材料を交換可能な容器(カートリッジ)に存在させることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の方法。 - 交換可能な容器を、気密状態で素早い動作による結合で設け、従って、該容器が容易に交換可能である請求項12に記載の方法。
- 吸着材料を容器内で再生する請求項12又は13に記載の方法。
- 吸着材料を、150〜250℃で窒素ガス流に接触させることによって再生する請求項14に記載の方法。
- 窒素ガス流、及び/又は容器を加熱する請求項15に記載の方法。
- 吸着材料を、化学的吸着による目的の硫黄含有成分に対する吸収能力が実質的に尽きるまで一回又は多数回再生する請求項14〜16の何れか1項に記載の方法。
