Abstract
【解決手段】画素電極107を有する表示領域とその周辺領域を有するTFT基板100に、乾燥の速い周辺配向膜109をインクジェットで枠状に塗布し、その後、乾燥は遅いがレベリング効果が優れた表示領域配向膜108をインクジェットで塗布する。表示領域配向膜108は乾燥が遅いが、周辺に形成された周辺配向膜109がストッパーになるので、配向膜の外形を正確に規定することが出来る。これによってシール材20の接着力が配向膜の影響によって低下することを防止することが出来る。対向基板200側も同様である。

- 画素電極およびTFTを有する画素がマトリクス状に形成された表示領域と周辺領域を有するTFT基板と、前記TFT基板に対向して、前記TFT基板の画素電極と対応する場所にカラーフィルタが形成された対向基板が周辺のシール部においてシール材を介して接着している液晶表示装置であって、
前記TFT基板の前記表示領域には、第1の配向膜が形成され、前記表示領域の外側の周辺領域で、前記第1の配向膜の外側には、第2の配向膜が形成され、前記第2の配向膜は、前記表示領域には形成されておらず、
前記第1の配向膜は前記第2の配向膜に接していることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記第2の配向膜の厚さは前記第1の配向膜の厚さよりも大きいことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。

前記対向基板の表示領域の外側の周辺には枠状に第2の配向膜をインクジェットによって塗布し、
その後、前記対向基板の前記表示領域に前記第2の配向膜よりも乾燥の遅い第1の配向膜をインクジェットによって、前記第2の配向膜と接するように塗布し、
その後、前記TFT基板と前記対向基板をシール材によって接着することを特徴とする液晶表示装置の製造方法。
