また、蒸発部支持体を付設したり、蒸発部に指などが触れないように蒸発部をカバーするメッシュ状の蓋部材を備えるのが一般的である。
更に、インテリア性を付与するために、蒸発部支持体を介して布又はプラスチック製の造花を装填してもよい。造花は、アジサイ、スズラン、バラ、除虫菊、アイビーなど、各種の草花を模して作製され、見かけの体積は200〜1500cm3程度がよい。

本発明の飛翔害虫忌避剤(1)130gを透明ポリエステル容器本体2に充填し、その上部開口部に、外径7mmで棒状のフェルト製吸液芯3を挿通した中栓4を冠着させた。蒸発部支持体5に設置された、厚さ5mm、直径5.2cmの円盤状のフェルト製蒸発部6を、吸液芯3の頂面に当接させて取り付けた。更に、その上方に蒸発部支持体5を介して見かけの体積が350cm3でアイビーを模したプラスチック製の造花7を装填し、置型の虫よけ器具を作製した。
この虫よけ器具を玄関のサイドボード上に置いて使用したところ、約2ケ月間にわたり芳香感を満喫できるとともに、蚊に悩まされることはなかった。また、アイビーのグリーンは玄関にマッチし、インテリア性にも優れたものであった。

この虫よけ器具は、実施例1と同様、蚊や蚋などの飛翔害虫に対して優れた忌避効果を示した。

試験の結果、本発明の飛翔害虫忌避剤は、忌避成分として配合した炭素数が4〜7のアルコキシ又はシクロアルコキシ酢酸のアリルエステル化合物、及びフェノキシ酢酸のアリルエステル化合物の作用に基づき、飛翔害虫に対してシトロネラールに勝る忌避効果を示し、またいずれも火気に対する危険性が低く使用性の面でも優れたものであった。
これに対し、比較例1ないし比較例4に示すように、シトロネラール、p−メンタン−3,8−ジオール、テルピネオール、リナロールの忌避効果は、当該アリルエステル化合物に比べて劣ることが認められた。また、アリルエステル化合物であっても、炭素数が4〜7の範囲から外れるエトキシ酢酸のアリルエステル(比較例5)は、忌避効果が低かった。
