A method of crimping the connectors of a strip of electrical connectors to wires comprises advancing the strip 24 towards a crimping anvil 13 to locate the ferrule portion 25 of the leading connector upon the anvil, inserting an electrical wire W into the ferrule portion, operating a movable crimping die 4 to crimp the ferrule about the wire whilst moving a laminar shear blade 17 in the same sense as the die and in parallel closly adjacent relationship thereto to shear the metal slug 26 joining the connectors of the strip, relative movement of the blade and die during the return stroke serving to eject the sheared material therefrom. The die 4 is attached to a press ram 1 via a carrier 3 on which are mounted screws 6 for adjusting the relative stroke of the blade and die which contact and depress a spring return biased carrier 15, on which are mounted a blade 17 and a support plate 20, at a predetermined point during the ram working stroke. The leading and trailing edges of the blade 17 co-operate with the edges 11<SP>1</SP>, 14 of a fixed shear plate 11 and an anvil 13 respectively, detachably mounted on a strip guide block 8 with the carrier frame 10 to shear the slug 26 and the protruding wire ends. During the return stroke the die releases the crimped assembly and the shear blade is raised by the springs 22, the relative movement between the die and blade, which are spaced within 1 mm. of one another, ejects the sheared material therefrom and the strip advanced one connector by a feed finger (not shown). The material may also escape along a channel 27 along the top faces of the blade 17 support 20, and carrier 15 and be removed by a compressed air blast.
