Abstract

989,330. Screw mixing apparatus. BUES A.G. Jan. 23, 1964 [Feb. 4, 1963], No. 2890/64. Heading B1C. [Also in Division B5] A mixing and kneading screw 2 having a combined rotary and axially reciprocating motion has a hollow shaft 2<SP>1</SP> into which extends a rotary non-reciprocating discharge screw 7, the two screws being driven independently. The kneading screw 7 has a continuous thread, or an interrupted thread co-operating with teeth in the housing 1, and is interchangeably secured on a hollow shaft 8. Radial bores 11 in the shaft 2<SP>1</SP> facilitate transfer of the material from the kneading to the discharge screw. The screw 7 is driven by steplessly variable gearing and may be of either hand. Both screw shafts and the housing 1 may have heating or cooling means. There is a viewing window 5 and gas extraction outlet 6. Discharge takes place through a nozzle plate 9 having a rotary cutter 12.
