A process for injection moulding foamed thermoplastic articles comprises heating plastic and foaming agent to below the foaming temperature in an injection cylinder 3, pressing it into a cylindrical chamber 8 by means of an injection piston 1, heating it to above the foaming temperature in the chamber 8, and then injecting it into a mould 11 by means of a piston 7. A valve 5 controls the flow of material from the cylinder 3 to the chamber 8, the size of which chamber may be varied by adjustment of piston 7. A valve 6 controls the flow of material from the chamber 8 into the mould 11 and also allows for compressed air to flow from a pipe 17 to remove any residue of material from chamber 8.
