In an apparatus for adding a liquid reagent to a liquid flowing slowly in a tube 1, as in colorimetric analysis, the reagent is introduced at 10 by a tube 3 of less diameter than the tube 1 and projecting into and preferably to the centre of, its bore. There is at least one chamber as at 4, 7 downstream of the point 10 having a diameter from 1À5 to 4 (and preferably 3) times the diameter of the tube 1; the pressure drop in the chamber causes turbulence which promotes mixing. The tube 1 may have a diameter from <1>/32 to <3>/8 (preferably <1>/16) inch and the diameter of the tube 3 may be <1>/4 to <SP>3>/4 (preferably <1>/2) the diameter of the tube 1.
