Abstract

970,002. Drilling and boring. C. & A. STEWART Ltd. Sept. 9, 1963 [June 8, 1962], No. 22273/62. Heading B3C. A cutting tool holder comprises a sleeve 5 and an internally threaded collar 6 both located coaxially in a hole 2 of a boring bar 1. The cutting tool 7 has a threaded shank portion 8 and rear portion 9 with a flat 10 thereon which engages a pin 11 passing through the sleeve, thus preventing rotation of the tool in the sleeve but allowing axial movement. The threaded portion 8 of the tool shank engages the threaded portion of the collar 6 whereby the rotation of the latter by a key 16 effects the radial projection of the cutting tool. The outer face 14 of the collar 6 is provided with markings which indicate the amount of rotation of the sleeve which may then be interpreted in terms of the tool radial projection. A locking screw 13 for the tool is provided and a set screw in the bore 4 prevents rotation of the sleeve 5 in the hole 2.
