Abstract

963,853. Loud-speaker diaphragms. WHARFEDALE WIRELESS WORKS Ltd. Dec. 20, 1962 [Dec. 29, 1961], No. 46738/61. Heading H4J. A loud-speaker, Fig. 1, is provided with a body of frequency dependent sound-absorbing material 16 mounted directly on and enclosing the whole, or a major part of, the diaphragm 15. The material is preferably expanded polystyrene of density between 1 and 2 1b./cu. ft., the material being attached at its periphery to the diaphragm of a moving coil load-speaker. An alternative form of the invention is shown in Fig. 2. The sound-absorbing material is said to absorb sound generated behind the loud-speaker such as may arise due to cabinet resonances excited by a second speaker in a multi-speaker cabinet.
