Abstract
In the production of carbon black by the injection of coal tar oil, combustible gas and air into a carbon black furnace, the effluent gas is freed from carbon black, fortified with the vapour of a hydrocarbon having a b.p. of 30-280 DEG C., e.g. crude benzine, and recycled to the process as combustible gas; 20-100 kg. of crude benzine per 100 cu. m. of purified exhaust gas may be employed. The carbon black may be removed from the effluent by filtration, centrifugation or electrostatic precipitation. The effluent may be then washed with water and passed through water separators and filter candles. As shown, oil from an inlet 2, hot or cold air from an inlet 3, and combustible gas from an inlet 19 are injected under <PICT:0963526/C1/1> pressure into a furnace 1. The resulting effluent passes to a cooling and carbon-separation section 5, carbon black being drawn off through an outlet 6 and effluent gas passing to a water-washing tower 8. A portion of the washed gas is burnt in a steam boiler 10 or a slow combustion device 11, the remainder being passed through a fine purification section 13 and a compressor 15 and then fortified with benzine through an inlet 17, passed through a heater 18 and injected into the furnace through line 19.
