Abstract

958,538. Photographic processes. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION, Oct. 26, 1961 [Nov. 14, 1960], No. 38414/61. Heading G2C. A process of producing a polymeric photographic image comprises exposing a coating containing a polymerizable monomer containing the grouping CH 2 =C#, an aromatic diazo compound as a catalyst, and a photographic colloid carrier to an electromagnetic radiation of wavelength chosen from a range extending from the ultra-violet to the visible inclusive to decompose the diazo compound in the exposed areas, contacting the exposed coating with an alkaline substance capable of forming the diazotate of the diazo compound to effect polymerization in the unexposed areas containing residual diazo compound, and removing the coating in the exposed areas to obtain a polymeric photographic image in the unexposed areas. The polymerizable compound may be a vinyl monomer and may have a cross-linking agent, e.g. N.N<SP>1</SP>-methylene-bis-acrylamide,trialkyl cyanurate, divinylbenzene, divinyl ketones or diglycol diacrylate. The diazo compound may be an N-substituted p-phenylene-diamine. The alkaline compound may be ammonia and the residual unpolymeric compound may be removed by washing.
