Abstract

950,562. Winches. PACIFIC CAR & FOUNDRY CO. June 21, 1962, No. 23894/62. Heading B8B. [Also in Division F2] A winch drum 16 is driven from the shaft 6 of an hydraulic motor 5 through compound three-element planet gears comprising sunwheels 31, 32, planets 30, 33, and carriers 26, 27, of which carrier 26 meshes with sun-wheel 32, and both planet sets mesh with internal teeth 25 on drum 16, carrier 27 in turn meshing with a non-planetary train comprising a central pinion 36 meshing with pinions 37 on a fixed carrier 38 and also meshing with the winch teeth 25, the drive-shaft 5 being selectively engageable with either of the sun-wheels 31, 32 to give a twospeed drive. Shaft 6 is keyed to a sleeve 55 splined to an inner sleeve 54, the right-hand end of which has a toothed portion 56 engageable with internal teeth 35, 34 on the respective sunwheels, sleeve 54 being movable axially by a central spindle 53 connected to a hand lever 61. A space between teeth 34, 35 provides a neutral setting. With sleeve 54 engaging sunwheel 31 drive to drum 16 is transmitted through both planetary trains and the non- planetary train, while with sleeve 54 engaging sun-wheel 32 the first planetary train is bypassed. Carrier 26 may be locked by a disc brake 46 controlled by a screw member 42 operated by rotating hand lever 61 about spindle 53.
