Abstract

944,579. Cartons for fruit. BOWATER RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. Aug. 22, 1962 [Oct. 5, 1961], No. 35932/61. Heading B8P. An open-topped carton, e.g. for fruit, is made from a blank of e.g. fibrous sheet material, as in Fig. 1, by gluing tab 47 against the base panel 1 and folding the side walls 8 and 42 perpendicular to the base. The end walls 12, 13 are then folded down, to meet flaps 6 and 7, during which connecting pieces 18, 19, 40, 41 are folded along lines such as 16, 20 and 14 and snap into position as shown in Fig. 2. A tongue 26 on the connecting piece 18 fits into a slot 30 in the edge of the end wall 12 to secure the corners of the carton. The other corners are secured similarly. A handle 48 attached to the side wall 8 and 42 is provided and a detachable lid may also be provided.
