Abstract

944,544. Binding-posts. AMP Inc. June 5, 1962, No. 21654/62. Heading H2E. A terminal connector 1 consists of a tapered pin 2 and a sleeve 9 internally tapered to fit on the pin 2 to secure a conductor 11 between the sleeve 9 and pin 2, the connector having serrations 8 to bite into the conductor 11. As shown, Fig. 1, the serrations 8 are on the pin 2, but they may be in the inside 10 of the sleeve 9. The serrations are as shown in Fig. 3. As described, the conductor 11 is a fine wire coated with an insulating film and serrations 8 pierce the insulation to make electrical contact with the conductor cone. The sleeve 9 is forced on pin 2 by a tool (not shown) which engages sleeve 9 and a groove 4 on a flange 3 adjacent to the shank 5 of pin 2. The shank 5 is inserted in an opening in a printed circuit board and the end swaged over to secure the pin and make contact with the printed circuit. Other embodiments are described in which the pins and sleeves are rectangular with the serrations on one sloping surface of the pin and projections or grooves may be provided on the pins to position the wire during the forcing on of the sleeves. In another embodiment the pin is formed from a channel section. Pins having shanks of different shapes suitable for securing to printed circuit boards by swaging or upsetting are described.
