Abstract

A composition vulcanizable at room temperature comprises (1) a substantially diorganosiloxane, in which the organic radicals are monovalent hydrocarbon (saturated or unsaturated) or halo-hydrocarbon radicals, containing Si-bonded -OH groups and having a viscosity at 25 DEG C. of at least 100 cs., and (2) a composition for curing the siloxane which comprises the product of heating together to a temperature of at least 50 DEG C. and not higher than 200 DEG C. a tin salt of a carboxylic acid and an organosilicon compound of the formula RaSi(OR1)4-a, wherein R is a hydrocarbon radical, each R1 is an alkyl radical of less than 6 C atoms and a is 0 or 1 and/or a partial hydrolysate thereof. Components (2) specified are:- organosilicon compounds-methyl- and ethyl-triethoxysilanes, tetra ethyl- and n-butyl orthosilicates and ethyland isopropyl-polysilicates; tin carboxylates-dibutyl tin-dilaurate and -diacetate, tributyl tin monolaurate and stannous octoate. The compositions (2) may be diluted with the organosilicon compound. Fillers, pigments, oxidation inhibitors and organic peroxides may be added to the vulcanizable compositions. In a typical example (1) several curing compositions were made up as above and used for curing a hydroxyterminated dimethylpolysiloxane.
