Abstract

Palatable preparations for oral administration comprise a solid water-soluble vitamin in particle form, the particles thereof being coated with a pharmaceutically acceptable fatty composition consisting essentially of a mixture of saturated fatty acids having from 14 to 18 carbon atoms the fatty composition having a melting point of at least 45 DEG C., e.g. those commercially available under the name "Emersol" those known as "Emersol 110; 120; 132; 140 and 150" being preferred. Coating may be effected by forming a suspension of the vitamin (up to 50% by weight) in the molten fat and chilling e.g. by dropping into a cooled bath or on to a spinning disc or by "spray chilling" any of these methods giving individual spheroidal particles of suitable size (16-325 U.S.S. mesh). The coated particles may be used in formulating various types of tablets in particular chewable tablets; flavouring, lubricants and colouring may be added. Vitamins specifically mentioned are Vitamins B1, B2, B12, C and niacinamide.
