Abstract
911,596. Piston packing; stuffing-box substitutes. ALLEGHENY PLASTICS Inc. July 5, 1961 [Oct. 21, 1960], No. 24251/61. Classes 122 (1) and 122 (5). A seal between two relatively moving members, such as a piston 12 and a cylinder 14, consists of an annular disc 4 which is split by slits extending from its inner and outer peripheries 6, 7 along a central plane parallel to the sides of the disc and separated by an annular portion 8 of the disc, the split portions 10, 11 of the disc being curved away from each other so that the seal has a generally X-shaped cross-section. The seal may be made from P.T.F.E., nylon or acetal resin and is inserted in a groove 16 cut in the piston or in the cylinder wall.
