Abstract

A cyclohexylammonium salt of a phosphoric acid or boric acid is adsorbed on the surface of a pigment as wetting agent to facilitate the incorporation of a pigment into a binder. The cyclohexyl ammonium salts conform to the general formula <FORM:0903611/III/1> where R1 = cyclohexyl radical R2 = cyclohexyl radical, hydrogen or alkyl radical with at least 6 carbon atoms. A = anion of meta-, pyro- or orthophosphoric acid or of boric acid. Pigments specified are zinc white, lithopone, titanium white, cadmium red and cadmium yellow. The salt is added preferably as an aqueous solution, to which ammonia may be advantageously added, to the aqueous paste of the pigment before drying. Drying temperature must not exceed the decomposition temperature of the salt. In the examples an aqueous solution of cyclohexyl-ammonium phosphate is formed. This solution, to which ammonia has been added, is added to lithopone or zinc sulphide.
