903,199. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. VAPOR HEATING CORPORATION. Aug. 25, 1960, No. 29363/60. Class 135. A modulating fluid control valve device comprises a valve housing 11, 12 provided with inlet and outlet ports 20, 15 respectively, a valve seat 16 associated with the outlet port, a poppet valve 18 co-operating with the seat, an actuating piston 29 connected to the poppet valve, a body member 23 having a cap 27 which together with the piston define a closed chamber 24 this chamber having inlet and outlet orifices 28, 41 respectively, a pilot valve 43 controlling this outlet orifice; and a fluid feedback loop effective to position the poppet valve in a controlled position and comprising a tapered pin 34 co-operating with the inlet orifice 28, said pin and inlet orifice being movable relative to each other in accordance with movement of the poppet valve so as to progressively increase the effective size of the orifice as the poppet valve moves away from the seat. The pilot valve may be operated manually or automatically, e.g. in response to downstream pressure or to the temperature of the fluid. In a modification, the tapered pin 34 is fixed and the orifice 28 is provided in the piston.
