Industrial gases containing sulphur compounds are desulphurized by passage through an absorber containing one or more fluidized beds of iron or manganese oxide maintained at a temperature of between 320-400‹ C. and thereafter through one or more fluidized beds of hot fresh iron or manganese oxide maintained at a temperature between 50‹ and 200‹ C.
