892,956. Photographic image-transfer procedures. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. March 30, 1960 [April 22, 1959], No 11244/60. Drawings to Specifica tion. Class 98(2). Deacetylated chitin or this in admixture with polyvinyl alcohol or gelatin is used as colloid in colour transfer film units and processes, or together with silver precipitating nuclei is used in transfer image-receiving elements and units containing such elements for either black and white or colour transfer procedure. Composite units may include photosensitive as well as receiving elements, and include also a liquid processing composition in a rupturable container therefor. In Example 1 the deacetylated chitin is blended with aqueous acetic acid and silver acetate to form nuclei, coated on a hydrolysed cellulose acetate base and overcoated with an iodobromide emulsion, which latter is exposed, spread with the processing composition of Specification 684,591, and subsequently removed to leave a positive transfer image in the chitin layer. Examples 2 and 3 are similar but use gelatin and polyvinyl alcohol respectively along with the chitin, and provide the nuclei by deposition procedures as of Specification 863,516. Example 4 describes image production using a stripping layer over the receiving layer, and Examples 5, 6 colour image production using additive colour screens with the deacetylated chitin/ silver acetate blend of Example 1. Multicolour transfer materials and procedures using colour image forming components such as dye developers, colour couplers and coupling dyes also are indicated. Four figures, not shown, illustrate materials including a photosensitive layer and an image-receiving layer containing deacetylated chitin, with one instance of a colour screen element and one of the rupturable container.
