Abstract
889,679. Cables. FELTEN & GUILLEAUME CARLSWERK A.G. Sept. 15, 1960 [March 29, 1960], No. 31761/60. Class 36. A high-frequency coaxial submarine cable comprises an inner conductor of solid aluminium wire 1 having an electrolytically applied copper layer 2 of about 0.3 mm. thickness, polyethylene insulation 3, an outer copper (or aluminium) conductor of one or more layers 4, 10, and an armouring of two layers 12, 14, of high tensile steel wires laid in opposite directions. Outer conductor 4 may have the further copper tape 10 wound round with a short lay turn for better cohesion. To protect them from corrosion by sea water the armouring wires 12, 14 are bedded in polyethylene 11, 13 by extruding polyethylene or winding polyethylene tape over and under each layer of wires. Alternatively each single wire or several wires together may be surrounded by extrusion with polyethylene and wrapped round the cable. A seamless coating 9 of polyethylene is provided overall.
