Abstract
853,392. Flame desurfacing. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. Nov. 5, 1958 [Nov. 12, 1957], No. 35528/58. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIX] In a flame desurfacing process slag is removed from the work by a high-velocity hollow stream of water issuing from a nozzle 2, which stream first converges from its source to a vena contracta and then expands to a substantially uniform diameter equal to that of its source. The nozzle, Fig. 3, comprises an inner core 6 fitted within an outer shell 4 by radial fins 8 tapered at both their upstream and downstream ends.
