[Also in Group X] The filter shown in Fig. 1 consists of a tank 20 accommodating filling material 21 which rests upon a supporting grid 22 and fills the spaces above and below an intermediate grid 23. The supporting grid as shown consists of hexagonal plates 24, Figs. 3 and 4, in contact only at their corners 25 which are bevelled at 26 above the. contact points. Each plate is formed with an integral pedestal 27 and with apertures 28 and recesses 29 for the passage of air and water. In Figs. 5 and 6, (not shown), the grid plates are square and have only four apertures, but are otherwise similar to those shown.
