Abstract
828,388. Batteries. SVENSKA ACKUMULATOR AKTIEBOLAGET JUNGNER. Dec. 31, 1957, No. 40491/57. Class 53. A zinc-silver accumulator in which the electrolyte is not added till the accumulator is required for use is provided with a positive electrode made by sintering silver powder round a wire gauze core of silver, iron or brass, and then forming it by placing it in contact with ozone. In an example, silver powder is placed in a graphite mould and covered with silver wire gauze upon which is placed a further layer of silver powder. Pressure is applied to the contents of the mould which is then placed in an oven and heated to 750‹ C. in hydrogen or cracked ammonia. The sintered plates are then oxidized in an atmosphere of ozone. In a modification the contents of the mould are compressed to form a plate which is removed from the mould before being sintered. The negative electrode is made by compressing or sintering zinc powder round zinc wire gauze, or by filling perforated zinc or nickel-plated iron tubes with zinc powder.
