Abstract
823,375. Sliding bolts. K.A.C. Ltd. June 27, 1956 [June 27, 1955; Aug. 2, 1955], Nos. 18525/55 and 22214/55. Class 44 A bolt type fastener comprises a housing 1 adapted for attachment to the structure on which the fastener is to be used, a bolt 13 mounted for longitudinal sliding. movement in the housing, an operating lever 23 through which the bolt may be actuated, the lever being pivoted relative to the housing and also capable of being stowed wholly or mainly in the housing when not in use for operating the bolt, catch means for releasably securing the lever in the stowed position and means for partially projecting the lever from the housing when the catch means is operated to release the lever. As shown the operating lever 23 operates, with lost motion, a toothed sector 19 which engages a toothed tail portion of the bolt 13. The periphery of the sector follows a spiral path and the tail portion of the bolt is inclined. The lost motion between the lever 23 and the sector 19, which is provided by a recess defining abutments 24 and 25 for the pivoted end of the. lever, allows the latter to be partially projected from the housing by a spring loaded finger-operated latch lever 27. Thereafter the lever 23 may be operated directly to withdraw the bolt 13 from a keep 7. The keep is adjustably mounted on an attachment bracket 10 for mounting in one of the parts to be fastened together and includes a tongue 8 which engages a recess 5 and a guide 6 for the bolt 13 and is provided with a hole 9 for the bolt. Inward movement of the lever 23 is limited by a stop pin 26. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the latch lever is provided with an arm which when the latch lever is operated engages the underside of the lever 23 to positively force the latter outwardly of the housing. Also, in this modification the sector is of part circular form and the co-operating teeth on the bolt tail are arranged along a rectilinear surface of the bolt tail. In another arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), the operating lever operates a freely rotatable toothed pinion which engages a rack on the bolt tail and a fixed rack lying parallel to the bolt tail.
